Sub-Head 36. The reduction of 40% in

the appropriation for anti-malarial works is

no doubt necessary though it would probably be

well to increase expenditure under this Sub-

Head in the event of an improvement in the

general financial outlook during the course of

1935.

Kowloon.

Sub-Heads 45 to 51.

Considerable reductions in expenditure

are indicated under 3 of these Sub-Heads.

Cub-Head 60. Dredging. $150,000 represents

Government as opposed to the expenditure by the

Admiralty and the Kowloon Wharfs and Godown

Company.

New Kowloon

Sub-Head 73, Kowloon Walled City.

$30,000 are provided for expenditure in 1935.

The negotiations regarding the evacuation of

Kowloon Walled City are the subject of correspondence on 33744/34.

Loan Expenditure.

During recent years surplus balances.

have been drawn upon for the financing of

certain capital works in anticipation of the

raising of a Loan to which the cost of the

works was eventually to be charged. The total

expenditure from surplus balances to be charged

eventually to Loan funds as at 30.6.34 is

estimated at $8,422,276 and it is proposed to

charge
